Ryan Straker

Founder & CEO

Ryan is the owner of Straker Energy and has over 25 years experience in broad-based Marine and Oil & Gas Engineering as well as Onshore and Offshore Office Management, Business Management and HSE. He has a wealth of knowledge and practical experience within the industry where he has held key senior positions in deepwater subsea equipment design, construction, testing, installation, intervention and operations.

After founding Straker Energy in 2011, Ryan has executed many successful projects in collaboration with several major companies including BP, Shell, Chevron, Anadarko, Petrobras, Subsea 7, Aker Solutions, Nexans, Ocean Installer (Havfram) and CNOOC globally to name a few. Ryan has been described as a respected, "people leader“ with strong presence while maintaining a professional approach attitude. He is a results-driven, overseas working veteran and “safety-first” focused engineering lead who is able to identify and implement strategies to reduce costs, increase productivity, strengthen relationships at all levels and most importantly improve safety practices in any project. He excels in creating and maintaining an effective development plan to increase profitability and efficiency of the project through encouraging effective communication and providing mentorship on all levels within the project team and throughout the organization.

Ryan holds a BS in Marine Engineering from South Tyneside Marine & Technical College near Newcastle, UK where he graduated with honors.

Bill Straker

Technical Director

Over the course of 34 years, Bill held several key leadership roles within BP Exploration & Production (E&P).

As global custodian of BP’s Common Maintenance Strategy (CMS), Bill instilled the strategy into the E&P organization through the Operating Management System as well as the Capital Value Process for Turnarounds, leading to improved plant availability and mechanical integrity. As well as Reliability, Maintenance and Turnarounds, Bill has in-depth knowledge in Process Safety, Mechanical Integrity, Preservation Programs and Operations Readiness.

During his last five years with BP, Bill worked within the global project’s organization, driving standardized approaches for implementation of reliability, maintenance and integrity programs across all major projects, as well as defining requirements for Operations Readiness Plans and Start-Up Assurance reviews, leading to an increased ramp-up of production and much improved life cycle reliability. Bill was the owner of global contracts for reliability, maintenance and integrity support services as well as being accountable for organizational capability within individual major projects.

Chris Wheeley

CMMS & WMP Lead

Over the course of 30+ years, Chris has worked in Maintenance and Reliability in Progressive roles from shop floor to leadership roles in a Global Organization in the Oil and Gas Industry.

He has Deep Experience in Work Management with a focus on CMMS Data and business processes, Maintenance Planning, Scheduling and Execution. He was the SPA/Global lead for all work management data standards, and quality for BP Upstream Global organization and was the lead for all business readiness for global deployment to Maximo and to SAP during his career with BP.

He led a team of Maintenance Specialist to cleanse, align and deploy 38 different CMMS systems into one Common System, Common Process and Common Roles and Responsibilities. He was responsible for cleansing, standardizing and enriching 3 million plus equipment records and their corresponding Maintenance Routines including the development of BOM’s.

In Addition to his Oil and Gas background he has worked in the Manufacturing and Wood Products Industry. Along with work for the Department of Defense.

He has experience with managing change within an organization through Continuous Improvement methods.

Our Bench Strength

Steve Williams

Steve is a highly motivated and dedicated individual with over 40 years Oil and Gas upstream and downstream experience, a versatile, accomplished maintenance professional and manager with proven expertise developing and implementing maintenance strategies both locally and globally.

He can communicate and build relationships at all levels and across all cultural barriers within an organisation and influences change.
Steve supported the delivery of a Maximo Work Management solution design, configuration and customization to meet the business process design requirements. He leveraged his expert knowledge of CMMS ERP systems to ensure a simple solution to agreed standards were implemented with a focus on end user satisfaction and systems functionality.
Steve worked in a team delivering a new maintenance build to global oil and gas company and conversion from Maximo to SAP PM. Focused Bill of Materials review and development, Data Standards and maintenance strategies.

Charles Hammerle

Over the course of 39 years, Chuck has held several key leadership roles within the United States Air Force and BP Exploration Alaska (BPXA).

As the BPXA Preventative Maintenance Team Lead he managed the day-to-day activities for over 67K PM tasks and maintained all PM Department Operating Procedures. Also, Chuck was the BPXA Regional Custodian responsible for deploying BP’s Common Maintenance Strategy (CMS) activities across 13 production and 2 support facilities. The new strategy-based maintenance program increased production facility availability, mechanical integrity and streamlined all planning/scheduling activities for prescribed, shutdown and turnaround maintenance. Chuck has in-depth knowledge of Maximo and SAP PM and during his time with BPXA he was the Regional Data Sustain point of contact. He was responsible for the accurate conversion of all maintenance activities during the BPXA transition from Portal-G to Maximo and SAP PM. Chuck led the successful conversion of all maintenance data requirements to include PM’s, attached/linked documents and spare parts.  

Chuck holds a BS in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Burl Russell

Burl has over 40 years’ experience in Oilfield production equipment R&M, both on land and offshore.

In addition to overseeing the Maintenance activities on various facilities, Burl also worked on development and implementation of the PM and PdM programs for the facilities. 10 years were in various Maintenance Leadership roles overseas, both rotational (Libya & Kazakhstan) and most recently (Egypt & Brazil). After returning from Brazil Burl joined the BP Central Team as a Work Management Specialist (Houston), deploying Work Management Standardization, (Maximo and SAP PM), as well as working with the Regional Work Management Subject Matter Experts in Angola, Trinidad, Indonesia, U.K., Azerbaijan, and the Gulf of Mexico, to help improve their Maintenance Programs.

Paul Gibbs

Over the course of 32 years, Paul held several key leadership roles within various CMMS consulting companies.

As a senior consultant to ConocoPhillips from MRG Paul spent time in both the upstream and downstream sections of the oil and gas industry.  Paul implemented a CMMS system for Conoco at the Lake Charles refinery. Paul assisted Conoco with the transition of the CMMS system to SAP PM. Paul also spent 4 years in Midland TX at the Conoco facility and created a project plan for visitation to every well site in their Mid Con Business Unit to confirm assets in the correct location within SAP.

Paul constructed a database for CMMS data that will display the asset hierarchy and allow drag and drop of asset records to correctly build the hierarchy.

Paul also has experience in the pharmaceutical business, having completed a project with Nuvolo CMMS system for Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
